Motivation

There is a game genre that I like to call ‘fire and forget’. Games like Hearthstone Battlegrounds, Teamfight Tactics or Auto Chess. Where you create some initial state with some synergies and then let the game play out. I’m a MMORPG raider since basically day one and I want to combine those two things. I want the game to feel like you are a raid lead or shot-caller in a MMORPG raid or dungeon. You recruit your team, consisting of tanks, healers, dps and you equip them with behaviour and sweet gear to fight bosses. Bosses drop even sweeter gear so you can grow your team and defeat the final boss. The path to the boss is procedurally generated and you will have meta progression, so it’s an ‘fire and forget raid management rogue-lite’.

The name serA is just Ares the war god backwards because there will be pew pew in the game. But it will get a real name after I’ve chosen the art direction and lore of the game.

Technical Stuff

  • The game will be written in D. Because I really like the language and I want to learn new stuff that I’m not going to learn using a big boy engine like Godot.
  • It will be released on Linux, Web (play tests on itch.io) and Windows.
  • It will be 2D low pixel art because that’s the only art style I can do myself.

Further Stuff

The development will be on and off stream. There is no deadline.
